How do your shoes fit?
All of our shoes are in US sizes, built on E-width lasts. We now have a range of lasts, all made by the same last-maker for sizing consistency across models and styles.
Our signature Augie loafers are all built on the Harry Last, which is a classic fit following the natural shape and curves of your feet. It has a carved inside waist for allow improved arch support and a refined silhouette. The toe box is roomy and allows for natural movement and a comfortable stride, whilst the vamp and instep are cut closer to the top of the foot to ensure a secure fit and stability within the shoe.
The Aviator and Belliver Boots are made on a variant of the Harry Last, with a slightly elevated toe-spring and a marginally higher instep to allow easy donning and removal. Toe shape and overall silhouette are the same as the classic Harry Last.
The Voyager Last is a refined take on a classic chukka or desert boot shape. It has an elegant silhouette, and a full, sculpted heel cup to keep the foot securely held in the shoe. The toe has a lowered toe-spring and the merest hint of being squared off that elevates it above more rudimentary boots. They feel snug and supportive on the foot.
If you have a very narrow foot or a low instep, you should consider ordering a half size down.
For particularly wide feet, a half size larger should accommodate.
Where we see variations in fit because of a particular leather or styling detail we have this noted on the individual product page.

Where are your shoes made?
We make every pair of August Special shoes in Italy. Our leather tanneries and component suppliers, even our shoe box and bag makers, are all located within a few miles of our workshops in Tuscany.
Are your shoes made by hand?
All of our footwear is made by skilled artisans using the best machines and equipment for each process, many of which are completely manual. The skins are selected by the cutter and cut manually, the toe stitching is done by hand.
Our original lasts are carved and shaped by hand from wood, as you can see here. Each shoe is polished and finished by hand, and packed with care to ensure they are secure for transport.
Do you offer custom widths or sizes?
All of our shoes are US sized, in an E width. Most shoes are offered in sizes 7-14. Some models are full-sizes only, but most offer the full range of half sizes.
At this moment we are not able to offer custom or made to measure shoes.
What materials do you use?
We use a range of full-grain calf skin and calf suedes from the Italian tanneries Zabri, Opera and Sciarada.
We also use Italian vegetable-tanned horsehide, cordovan, and roughout suedes from the Maryam tannery in Tuscany.
Outsoles are made in Italy by Vibram, perhaps the most celebrated and well known sole-maker, including their new 'Arctic-Grip' products that deliver reliable traction even in icy conditions.
