The Harry Last is a classic fit, following the natural shape and curves of your feet. The toe box is roomy and allows for natural movement and a comfortable stride. We currently make all styles in an E width.

Our sizing is comparable to Alden, so if you wear an Alden size 9, you can confidently order an August Special shoe in size 9.

If you have a very narrow foot or a low instep, you could consider ordering a half size down. For particularly wide feet, a half size larger could accommodate.

We make every pair of August Special shoes in Italy. Our leather tanneries and component suppliers, even our shoe box and bag makers, are all located within a few miles of our workshops in Tuscany.

All of our footwear is made by skilled artisans using the best machines and equipment for each process, many of which are completely manual. The skins are selected and cut manually, panels stitched together by hand.

Our original lasts are carved and shaped by hand from wood, as you can see here. Each shoe is polished and finished by hand, and packed with care to ensure they are secure for transport.

We ship Monday through Friday. We make every effort to ensure a rapid turnaround but please note that as a small company orders can sometimes take a day or two to be dispatched.
